Senior Software Engineer with

Picture this: your team's engineers are shipping faster, catching more bugs before production, and building their own AI agents to handle the repetitive stuff, because you showed them how.

About the Company:

Our client is a cloud communications API platform (CPaaS) powering voice and text messaging for more than 1,500 companies, from contact centers to fintech platforms to mobile carriers. Their platform includes voice APIs, SMS/MMS messaging, RCS for Business, branded calling solutions, and bring-your-own-carrier (BYOC) options, all built on carrier redundancy, compliance, and U.S.-based support. When a call or text absolutely has to go through, their customers count on this team to make it happen.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who's already a genuine power user of AI-assisted development, someone who's put in the hours, knows exactly where these tools help and where they fall apart, and can teach that judgment to others. You'll work across their Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services stack, and you'll be expected to help set the standard for how the whole engineering org adopts AI-native workflows, from code generation to agent-driven automation. This is as much about raising the team's velocity and quality bar through smart tooling as it is about shipping features yourself.

What You'll Actually Do:
  • Design, build, and ship features across Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services systems (APIs, routing logic, carrier integrations, messaging pipelines)
  • Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as a core part of your daily workflow, and help less experienced teammates build the same fluency
  • Evaluate, pilot, and recommend AI development tools and workflows for the broader engineering team; help set internal best practices and guardrails
  • Design, build, and run AI agents to automate real engineering and operational work (testing, monitoring, incident triage, code migration, documentation) with appropriate guardrails and human review
  • Partner with the team to integrate AI-assisted development into CI/CD, code review, and QA without compromising reliability or security
  • Support production systems handling real-time voice and messaging traffic, including a weekly on-call rotation
  • Collaborate directly with product management on technical scoping, estimation, and tradeoffs
  • Write clear technical documentation, including for internal tooling and AI-assisted workflows adopted by the team

What You Bring:
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including backend/API work, telecom/CPaaS, or high-reliability distributed systems
  • Deep, hands-on daily fluency with AI coding tools: you can speak to specific workflows, prompting techniques, and where these tools genuinely help versus where they fall short
  • Strong fundamentals: you evaluate and correct AI-generated code rather than accepting it, with solid grounding in data structures, system design, testing, and security
  • Practical experience building and operating AI agents (orchestrating multi-step or tool-using agents via frameworks or APIs such as Claude Agent SDK, LangChain, or similar), not just single-shot prompting
  • Experience with a modern backend language/framework (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java) and RESTful API design; this team is primarily Node with some Python
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to document decisions and workflows clearly for a distributed team
  • Able to be in the Raleigh, NC office Wednesdays and Thursdays each week; unfortunately, this role is not able to sponsor work visas
  • Bonus: experience with telecom protocols (SIP, SMPP), messaging standards (SMS/MMS/RCS), or carrier integrations
  • Bonus: experience deploying agents into production systems (not just prototypes), including handling failure modes, cost and latency tradeoffs, and safety guardrails

Why You'll Want This One:
  • Work on infrastructure that's genuinely mission-critical: real calls, real texts, real customers, at scale
  • Be part of a thriving company at the center of the rapidly growing CPaaS industry
  • Join a small, senior team with real ownership and visibility into the product roadmap
  • Shape how the entire engineering org adopts AI-assisted development, not just use the tools, but define how they're used
  • Your future path here is wide open, with real room for professional growth
  • Hybrid schedule based in Raleigh, NC (in-office Wednesdays and Thursdays)

Benefits & Perks:
  • Comprehensive health coverage: medical, dental, and vision for you and your family
  • Generous PTO plus 10+ paid company holidays
  • 401(k) with a 4% company match
  • Competitive compensation plus commission
  • A fun, collaborative culture with team-building events and company-wide volunteer days

If you're ready to be the reason this team gets faster and sharper, send your resume along with a brief note on how you currently use AI tools in your own development workflow.
